Liverpool have announced a new match day cycle hub at Anfield

Liverpool Football Club is introducing a free cycling hub to encourage fans to cycle to and from Anfield on matchdays.

The LFC Cycle Hub, which is being trialled in partnership with Cycling Projects for the two remaining home games of the 2014/15 season, allows fans who cycle to Anfield Stadium to drop-off and park their bike safely and securely with an attendant at Stanley Park Car Park on Priory Road.

The service will open three hours prior to kick-off and will close one hour after the final whistle. Attendants from Cycling Projects and Liverpool FC Foundation volunteers will be on hand to assist fans with the parking and retrieving of their bikes to ensure a seamless and hassle-free experience.

Andrew Parkinson, Operations Director, Liverpool Football Club, said: “We are pleased to offer the LFC Cycle Hub to fans and provide a free, convenient and safe service for them to use. Cycling is a fast and fun way to travel to and from Anfield and also provides a range of health benefits, which is why we are keen to promote it.

“We hope that this new service will make it easier for fans to make cycling a real alternative transportation choice.”

The new scheme fits with the Club’s Reds Going Green initiative, which aims to implement good practices and new ways of working to ensure that LFC continues to strive towards reducing its carbon footprint and operates in the most environmentally friendly way.

Paul Amann, Vice Chair of the Liverpool FC Supporters’ Committee, added: “This is a great free facility for fans that cycle to Anfield on matchdays and will provide them with peace of mind in the knowledge that their bicycle will be stored safely and securely whilst they enjoy the game.”

Ian Tierney, Charity Director at Cycling Projects commented: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Liverpool Football Club on their new Cycle Hub. It’s fantastic that the Club are trailing this new service and supporting cycling as an alternative transport option for fans.”

The Cycle Hub will be available from Saturday 2nd May for the Reds penultimate home game of the season against QPR. If the trial is a success the Cycle Hub will be officially launched next season (2015/16) and the service will be available for all home fixtures.

Fans who use the Cycle Hub service for the QPR and Crystal Palace home games will automatically be entered into a free prize draw with a chance to win a signed LFC shirt.
