The young Dutch superstar could well be rolling up to Anfield over the summer window

He’s long been mooted as a target for Manchester United, but reports in the last 24 hours are claiming that Liverpool have now emerged as a potential destination for Dutch star Memphis Depay.

The 21 year old has emerged as a top class talent for PSV this season, scoring 20 goals in the Eredivisie, making him top goalscorer. He’s also managed an incredible 26 in all competitions, with 4 assists. He’s been the very definition of a match winner for the Dutch side this season, even going so far as to score twice in the game that won PSV their first title in 7 years.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Dutch journalist, Marcel van der Kraan, in an interview with talkSport claimed that, while their is interest from Manchester United along with a number of other clubs, Liverpool are the only side in ‘official talks’ with the club for their player. He also suggests though, that the sway of his former Dutch international manager could see him end up at United.

Speaking to talkSport, he said: “The question still is will he go to Man U or Liverpool? Liverpool so far have the strongest contact with the club, they are in official talks – the board of PSV told us that.

“But then Man U first phone call last week made all the alarm bells go off, not just with PSV but with Depay because he will find his former manager there.

“I don’t think he will go to Paris although they offer the biggest wage packet. Last summer Spurs wanted to pay 20m euros which is about £15m. PSV wanted to take that but the player chose to wait and the transfer was postponed.

“With the progress the player has made PSV are not willing to accept that figure. They now want £25m and I think they will get that.

“Liverpool have not been scared off by that figure.”

So, all positive stuff from a journalist who should be ‘in the know’, suggesting that the Reds are in for a player that should genuinely excite Liverpool fans. But, once again, it seems that the pull of a big name manager could see him end up at a rival club – something Liverpool have become all too familiar with in recent years.

I’m a scouser and LFC fan from Knotty Ash,and I’m sorry but as long as FSG,Ayre,Transfer committee,Scouting network, and Bodgers continue too be at ANFIELD we will only be after players like Allen,Borini,Aspas,Alberto,Lambert,Lallana,Markovic,Mignolet,Sakho,Ilori,Yesil.
And it’s because FSG won’t pay decent wages for quality players,AND THIS IS THE REASON ALL THE DROSS ABOVE WILL CONTINUE TOO PLAGUE LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB…
TIME FOR FSG TO SELL THE CLUB AND BUY ANOTHER AMERICAN FRANCHISE,BECAUSE THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL OR THE PRESTIGE OF LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB…

My darling club, Liverpool have witnessed the good, the bad and the ugly sides of this season, no thanks to Brendan Rodgers and the so called boardroom staff. I wonder who is more wasteful in terms of finances between Damien Comoli and this board? The answer is obvious, the board! The owners are not left out of the blaming games we find ourselves, its due to their policy of finding potential players instead of established proven players at the detriment of the faithful fans who are season ticket holder from their hard earned sweat, common FSG, do you have conscience at all? Am just praying that I should just wake up one of these day and find a headline that BR had been sacked! I will be the happiest man ever. With all due respect to BR, he lacks players management, (Tiago Ilori who never kicked a ball at Liverpool, Joao Texieria, Andrea Wisdom, even Mario Balotelli just to mention a few), I always feel jittery anytime (wants to sign player because I feel sorry for them because of BR not to jeopardise their career due to poor player management, mismanagement of funds (£110m including £75m from Suarez sale wasted). Whom much is given, much is expected but he has failed is this capacity. Lower clubs always have their best memories from humiliating our darling club due to the manager’s selection blunders which so common of him. It is high time we changed guard. If the American owners still keeps next season, then I will know that they do not really meant well for the fan but their pockets. Benitez always comes to my mind of good memories he brought to Anfield, when one can predict positive scoreline in favour of the Kop, but where are those memories now, gone into oblivion! There are proven coaches and managers all over the place who can attract top players but BR do not have that kind of personality at all, that is why he always go for average or below average players for this great club, SO RIDICULUS! It is now Damien Comoli will be vindicated of all allegations from the so called myopic boardroom, technical committee, scouts/transfer committee etc. I prayed God help us to wipe away these bad memories of ill-luck orchestrated by some ineptitude individuals. YNWA!!!
