Song has been in great form for West Ham this season

It was a move much mooted over the summer but, in the end, Liverpool allowed the opportunity to pass and instead former Arsenal star, Alex Song, made a loan move to West Ham. But again in the press in the past 24 hours, Liverpool have been linked with a summer move for the Barcelona midfield star.

Now ordinarily, the thought that Liverpool were after a player on loan to West Ham would be slightly disturbing but there is no doubting Song has quality as a defensive or holding midfielder, and the primary reason Liverpool are looking to enter ‘the race’ to sign the player is because West Ham – apparently – are unable to afford the player who reportedly has a £10 million fee attached to him.

The Metro meanwhile reported yesterday that Chelsea are looking to steal the player in the summer to fill out an already packed squad. Most of the reports since Tuesday though, state that Liverpool are believed to be very keen on the midfielder. Though some of the claims that he will be Steven Gerrard’s ‘replacement’ seem a little wide of the mark, he would certainly make a quality addition to the Reds often lightweight midfield for next season.

Would you be happy to get Song for around £10 million? Let us know your thoughts below.

I was of the understanding he wanted to play his football in London in the summer, so the deal was never on the cards, and you may be right about West Ham not affording the player, but it’s more a case of not wanting to afford him, the price quoted from Barca was £15m and the player wants £120k a week, the signing on fee is pretty irreverent with regards to most players these days, it’s usually down to their extreme wages and bonus’s where all the costing is…
