Henderson believes Liverpool can’t dwell on the defeat too long, with Blackburn coming up on Wed

After one of the team’s most humbling defeats of the season, Liverpool will be licking their wounds for the next few days. While the defeat was a heavy one, the overall performance, you could argue, wasn’t perhaps deserving of a 4-1 defeat. But in the end, Arsenal’s greater quality, shown in the moments of quality from Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, were key to Arsenal’s win.

There will be little time for the players to dwell on the loss however, with a now much more important FA Cup replay coming up on Wednesday evening against Blackburn Rovers, and Jordan Henderson believes that Liverpool have to respond to the second defeat in as many Premier League games, in a way they failed to after the loss at home to Manchester United.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the match, the captain said: “To concede three goals in such a short space of time is not good enough.

“Our one-v-one defending needs to be better.

“I’m sure we’ll work on that in training. We’ve just got to be a little bit more aggressive, defensively, and then also in the final third, be more ruthless.

“We knew it was going to be difficult [to finish in the top four], even before we came here, but it makes it even more difficult. That doesn’t mean we’ll just give up. We’ve got seven games left now and we need to try to win every one. If we do that, then you never know.

“[Blackburn] is another big game for us straight away. We’ve got to recover well, learn from this one and move on and try to get a big win on Wednesday.”

With the prospect of Champions League football all but dead for this season, the Reds now have a fight on their hands for a Europa League finish, with the FA Cup possibly representing the team’s best chances of that vital Euro spot.

Can the team finish in the top 5, or has the bottom finally fallen out after a superb run in the past few months? Let us know your thoughts below.

Bounce back? I thought the Arsenal game was the one to bounce back after the United humiliation? Rodgers will probably buy a set of trampolines given all the bouncing back his team have to do. When will FSG realise that appointing this guy was a huge mistake?

There’re 7 games left, ie, 21 pts on offer! LFC cannot be throwing in the towel at this stage. A defeatist attitude is not welcome. We need to play the remaining matches as finals to our season and see how far that’ll take us! I still believe the run-in will have its twists and turns particularly with relegation and top 4 battles on the menu! My message to the whole LFC family:There’s still hope for the top 4; Brendan Rogers take courage and uplift the spirits of the players! Come May,24 we’ll be there celebrating.

Keep dreaming of top 4. With BR we’ll get nowhere.
Can’t believe BR is still at LFC.
      He needs to go.
