Not content with linking a number of players to Liverpool from the Serie A this week (as well as Martin Skrtel and Lucas to Napoli), the English press are now claiming that Liverpool are showing a strong interest in signing Roma’s Juan Iturbe.

The 21 year old Argentinian star is valued at around £18-25 million, depending on which sources you prefer to get your daily dose of rumours from, and his agent has spoken of two English clubs that are reported to be interested – Arsenal and Liverpool.

The winger is highly thought of at Roma so it would certainly take a sizeable chunk of either club’s summer transfer ‘war chest’ to acquire the player but, from Liverpool’s point of view, it again raises the question of how many young stars with potential the club needs considering that Iturbe has 2 goals and 3 assists in over 20 games for Roma this season and is clearly a very, very rough diamond.

When you factor in the amount of young wingers/attacking players the club has, any new player that can take up that role would have to be exceptional and it doesn’t appear that the Roma man quite fits into that category, just yet.

Regardless, the rumour is just another in a long, long line of rumours linking young, exciting players with Liverpool so, again, it’s probably not worth holding your breath for this one.
