After his form after Christmas, you’d think (and hope) it was a foregone conclusion that Lucas would – if fit – start the semi-final at Wembley against Aston Villa. But Lucas, as self-deprecating as ever, just hopes to play some part.
It was a hard earned victory over Blackburn last night; a side that sat back for much of the match, almost goading Liverpool into throwing their best at them. And thankfully, the Reds found a way through, in the form of Lucas’s compatriot Phil Coutinho.
Both Brazilians are likely to feature in the semi on 19th April and Lucas is excited about the prospect, having missed out on the club’s last appearance at the famous stadium.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the match Lucas said: “Hopefully I’ll be fit and be able to play at Wembley. I’ve never played there, so it will be a very good experience and after many years here, to have that chance is amazing.
“I think everyone could see how hard we worked. We knew it was going to be a very hard game in difficult conditions, but I think we did well and we are so happy to get to Wembley and hopefully get to the final.”
The Reds will go into the game, hopefully with another, more convincing win under their belts, against a somewhat resurgent Aston Villa side who are now pinning all hopes on a rejuvenated Christian Benteke.
But provided the team can return even close to the form prior to the United defeat last month, then they have an excellent chance of returning to Wembley for the final in May.
