While praise has not been lacking for Philippe Coutinho this season, it’s hard not to lavish more on the young midfielder, who’s wonderfully taken strike against Blackburn in the FA Cup semi-final capped off a fantastic few months for the star.

And Brendan Rodgers has again been quick to heap more praise on his star man, praising the quality of the goal and the player himself. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, he said: “He had a lot of work to do.

“It seemed that he had a lot of space but to create the space it needed a wonderfully clever piece of play. His combination play in tight areas is top-class. It was a lovely touch by Jordan to play him into the space.

“He has gone in and he cuts across the ball; you see lots of players try to fire it in at the near post, but his technique is wonderful – it was a great finish.”

That strike ensured Liverpool would be stepping out onto the Wembley turf in just over a week’s time to take on Aston Villa in a tie that will surely see Brendan Rodger’s men start the match as favourites – something that has not necessarily always sat well with the team since Rodgers took charge.

However, with Newcastle to play in the interim, there is a chance to build up a slight head of steam, particularly as Newcastle are a side that Liverpool have enjoyed a great run of results against in recent years. A few goals against Newcastle on Monday night, and Liverpool will arrive at Wembley next Sunday in much more confident form.
