Both Henderson and Sterling need to put all thoughts of contract negotiations behind them tonight

Liverpool take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park this evening, in what could turn out to be one of the most crucial games in the club’s recent history.

Victory, and the team move to Wembley for an FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa – a very winnable tie that could set up a final. Potentially against Arsenal. Few could argue that it’s written in the stars that a club like Liverpool would avenge the weekend’s defeat in that particular game.

But first, Blackburn didn’t take Liverpool to a replay for no reason. They’re a very tough Championship side and they certainly won’t be a walkover, but Liverpool simply must come out of the traps faster than they have in recent games and that may well meant a few tweaks in formation and lineup.

Considering the 3-4-2-1 appears to have been ‘found out’, despite Brendan’s best efforts to argue to the contrary, have a look at how we’d line up against Blackburn tonight.

Don’t agree at all. The team hasn’t played 433 for ages and even then we didn’t play it well. For me this would put too many players out of position.

It is clear Mignolet stays in goal.

The defence has to be Sakho, Toure and Lovren, probably putting Lovren in the middle.

We have 3 central midfielders so I would play them narrow, Henderson right, Lucas central and Allen left. By playing narrow then can protect the defence, cover out wide and support the front.

That leaves us 4 attacking based players. For me Sterling right, Markovic left and Coutinho central and Sturridge striker.

Call it 3331 but can easily move to 3511 or 3322. Gives width, nearly always has 2 up front so keeps at least 1 of the opposition full backs in defence at all times.

This is the only hope of Liverpool FC to win a trophy, they should ensure that the scale through the hurdles to night.

Rogers should go back to the diamond formation or resolve to 4:3:3.Its obvious LFC needs a new striker cause sterling is not loyal and sturridge is prone to injury.
