Coutinho is one of few Liverpool players to have truly shone this season

Just 24 hours ago, Philippe Coutinho was named Liverpool’s Standard Chartered Player of the Month for the fifth time this season. His previous awards came in October, December, January and February, with his fifth award for April.

The 22 year old has seen his form sky-rocket since mid-December and he seems to be getting better by the month. His most recent – non-LFC – accolades included being included in the short-list for PFA Player of the Year and the only Liverpool player to be included in the PFA Team of the Year.

If the season was a couple of months longer, who’s to say whether Coutinho would have had the time to claim more illustrious awards?

That said, there is still a couple of games left and we’re barely mid-way through May, meaning that there will still be one Standard Chartered Player of the Month award left to claim; could Liverpool’s little magician make it a magical double hat-trick of awards?

Upon receiving the fifth award of his season, Coutinho said: “I must say thank you to the fans.

“Once again I’d like to stress how important this award is for me as it’s been helping boost my confidence. I’m happy I was voted for by the fans and won it again.

“I’ve always said I’m grateful to our supporters and to the club. I’ve had a great reception from the fans from day one, which makes me feel comfortable to do my job on the pitch,” he continued.

“I’m very happy at Liverpool and supporters play a big part in it – not only for me but for all the squad. They’re always behind us there at Anfield – that has a huge significance for us.”

With a goal and an assist against QPR, and a man of the match award winning display against Chelsea mean he’s well on his way to claiming his sixth award of the season.
