Having missed out on the PFA award, Liverpool’s current star man Philippe Coutinho, had to remain content with a place in the team of the season. However, with the club’s player awards due to take place this month, Coutinho will be the favourite to take the award home.

After having had his most successful season to date at Anfield, Coutinho has amassed a quite impressive 8 goals and 7 assists this season. The most recent being the opener against QPR on Saturday, before laying on the winner for Gerrard mere minutes from time.

And speaking to Liverpoolfc.com yesterday, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler stated his belief that there is nobody more deserving of the award than Liverpool Brazilian star. He said: “The stand-out player this year has probably been Philippe Coutinho, I’d be surprised if he didn’t win it. He has scored goals.

“As a forward, I loved playing with players like that because you knew that you were going to get a few chances in a game.

“He is one of those players that can open up defences; ultimately, the forward players have got to be helping him but he certainly helps the forwards.

“He puts the ball into certain positions where you think it is impossible at times, and some of his footwork in creating space for himself is a joy to watch.

“It’s a match made in heaven for any player who plays up front for Liverpool when you’ve got a player that talented behind you.”

It’s a sentiment echoed by his former team mate Luiz Suarez and current team mate Daniel Sturridge, who have often sung the maestro’s praises and spoken very highly of his ability to lay on the goals and give them the time and space needed to do the damage up top.

Having recently agreed a new long-term deal with Liverpool, ‘little Phil’ us unlikely to be going anywhere anytime soon and may become the man to finally replace the creativity and genius that has been missed since Suarez left, in the seasons to come.
