Henderson won’t be alone in finding the guard of honour difficult tomorrow

It was a brief possibility around this time last season that Chelsea may have had to give Liverpool a guard of honour, after the Reds went close to winning the Premier League, only to fall at home to Chelsea at the last major point.

However, the tables are turned this year, as Liverpool will tomorrow be expected to give one of the club’s most bitter rivals their own guard of honour when the Premier League champions step out at their home ground.

It will be a very difficult moment for Liverpool fans, but the players will find it just as hard and Jordan Henderson, speaking to the Liverpool ECHO, has spoken of how hard it’ll be to see bitter rivals enjoying their success, after such a poor season for his own side.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s match, Henderson said: “You have to respect the team because they have been the best team over the season.

“Of course, it will be difficult doing that but you have to pay your respects.

“If that does happen, you have to remember the feeling that it is what we want to achieve and you have to bottle that and make sure next season we can have a really good go and use it as motivation and drive to push on.”

The moment will be a stark reminder for the away tam’s players of what is expected and required to win the major trophies in European football and give the players and staff that are still at Anfield next season the push they need to prove that they are capable of challenging sides such as Chelsea for the Premier League and cup competitions, at home and in Europe.
