Amidst the controversy and distasteful situation of Raheem Sterling’s contract talks, it’s good to see a bright spot for Liverpool and the clubs fans after it was announced that Jordan Ibe and Jon Flanagan have both signed long-term contracts at the club.

The announcement comes on a day when contract talks for Sterling and his agent have been cancelled for Friday, after reports of quotes made by Sterling’s agent seemed to make it relatively clear that the player has no intention of signing a new contract with the club, and are likely to comfortably reassure Liverpool fans that the club is more than capable of tying down quality young players when they want to be at the club.

Ibe was recently recalled from loan at Derby County and, despite only playing a dozen games, has impressed so much in the Premier League that he was earmarked to sign a new contract toward the beginning of the summer. The player has only played just 13 games for the Reds since his return but is expected to make a big impact on the team next season.

Meanwhile, Jon Flanagan had his breakthrough year last season, but was struck with injury that has kept him out all season. However, the 22 year old has recent begun his full recovery from injury and, with just a year left on his contract, was at risk of being able to sign with another side in the summer.

With Liverpool tying down two of the club’s hottest prospects, it ensures that the real business of the summer has gotten underway successfully and will hopefully be the start of a very fruitful summer for the Reds.
