Juventus’ Vidal would add some much-needed bite to Liverpool’s midfield

After another dismal display from the team on Saturday, it’s clear that, with one more game to go, another major overhaul isn’t necessarily needed in the summer, the team certainly needs some top additions.

The foundations are there; there are a handful of senior players and plenty of youth that still warrant a place at Anfield, but what’s missing are 3-4 quality players to take Liverpool up a notch and really make them challengers. If rumours today are to be believed, the Reds have already targeted three such players.

The first of those is Juventus’ Chilean midfielder, Arturo Vidal, who the Daily Mirror are reporting is a surprise target for Liverpool who want a top international star to replace Gerrard.

The newspaper claims that Juventus are interested in Roma’s Radja Nainggolan and will look to fund that move by allowing the 27 year old to leave. There are no prices quoted but it would be surprising if any move for the midfielder didn’t see a sizeable fee move in the opposite direction.

Moving to France, and it is again being reported that Liverpool are looking at the possibility of bringing in French striker Alexandre Lacazette. The star striker has just pipped Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the French POTY, something likely to add a few million to his price, and the striker has himself admitted he’s likely to leave Lyon once the season officially ends.

Whether he’d be prepared to move to Liverpool when the club have failed to acquire Champions League football, remains to be seen. But Lacazette is another player unlikely to move for a small fee.

One player who is – apparently – going relatively cheap though, is Manchester City’s Stefan Jovetic. At least that’s according to the Daily Mirror (again). The Reds had shown interest in the Montenegran prior to his move to Manchester City two years ago and, at 25, he still has his best years ahead of him.

The publication is claiming that City are prepared to accept a fee of £12 million for the player who, while showing flashes of quality in the Premier League, has yet to really oust Aguero or Dzeko at the club.

The only concern with a player like Jovetic however is that the Reds need goals, as we once again saw – quite painfully – against Palace on Saturday, and Jovetic is anything but a prolific goalscorer.

Would you welcome any of these players? Should the Reds break the bank for Vidal or Lacazette? Let us know your thoughts on today’s rumours in the comments.

lfc needs quality players like that, they should try and invest on big players, they should try to use money to attract them and i believe they will see a positive result because that was what man city did then and they indeed see the result…lfc 4 life

vidal and lacazette would add value to liverpool, only top quality midfielders would effectively replace stevie g and vidal is the player

  • Jacob says:

Lfc wont be able to attract top player unless they get rid of Brenden Rodgers LOL..BR will only able to sign player like lambert,Allen etc…to sign player like vidal you need a manager like Rafa or klope..lets hope for the best..

Vidal, lacazette n pastore wud be great signings for LFC n lovren could be sold and a better defender bought.. Like godin maybe…or at least someone of sense because lovren has been doing nothing but watch opposing attackers run by

  • king says:

Vidal and Lacazette won’t be coming to Liverpool so us Liverpool fans can forget the idea we’re going to bring that sort of quality in because we aint . As for Jovetic he’s only a man city back up for a start and he’s never been that prolific at scoring goals in his career so I woulnt be interested in him anyway myself and unless his contract is running out this summer I’d be surprised he’d move because I’m pretty sure he’d havd to take a wage cut . I would not be at all surprised if we go for him though because he’s scored 2 goals against us on 2 occasions in the past . We’ve got a knack of buying a player that’s played well against us even if they’ve not been that great the rest of the season

lfc lack quality players and RG not good enough for the job i. think we need a top class coach who can win trophies for the club coach that can manage the team very well benites is a very good manager he knows the in and out of the club and with the help of the new owner lfc are suppose to win the epl at least once and top 4 finish every season under RG. signin top players is not the issue what the club really need is a good manager with a winning mentality with a very good home record b cus anfield is no more a winning ground for lfc that is why RG need to be sacked. vidal and the other player won’t be comin to lfc b cus RG mentality is too low to manage top players

    @Lfc needs to sign matured,experienced n class players. 2 strickers, a mid fielder, 2 defenders n a goal keeper.

  • francis says:

I doubt the veracity of Rodger in signing such quality players because he is good at buying average player.
