Pirlo has been linked with a move to Liverpool

According to reports in the last 24 hours, Liverpool are looking to change their transfer policy of ‘buy young, raw talent’ to go in the complete other direction by signing a 35 and 32 year old.

Reports from talkSPORT, the Metro and other sources claim that Liverpool are looking to move for both Petr Cech who will be looking to leave Chelsea in the summer and Andrea Pirlo, who’s contract expires at Juve in the summer.

It may seem like a strange move but it’s no secret that the club will be looking to bring in a few experienced players over the summer in areas where the team have lacked this season, and names such as Pirlo and Cech would certainly get the fans excited.

In the case of Cech, there’s no doubt that he is still one of the top keepers in the Premier League and a veteran of over 480 games. Any move would likely cost in the region of £8-10 million and, if signed, Cech would likely expect to replace Mignolet as number 1. With Arsenal reportedly also interested, Liverpool may well miss out again but his club may well decide that selling to a rival is not in their interests.

With regards Pirlo, there is no doubting that, in his day, he was a genuinely world class talent but at 35, his time to make a move to the Premier League may well have passed. That said, many argued that Gary McAllister’s move to Anfield around the same age was a big gamble and few would now say that it didn’t work out magnificently for both player and club.

The Italian legend has no intention of ending his playing career any time soon and talkSPORT are reporting that Liverpool and Chelsea are both in contact with Juventus about taking the player in the summer.

As transfer rumours go, Cech and Pirlo are certainly two of more interesting but how likely do you think either are? Should the Reds go all out for Cech, and is Pirlo too old now to make a big impact in one of Europe’s other top leagues? Let us know your thoughts below.
