The date of May 29th 1985 is one that will live long in the memory of Juventus, Liverpool and football fans around the world, as the day that 39 Juventus supporters needlessly died at Belgium’s Heysel stadium.

Despite the old ground not being fit for purpose, the match went ahead and when rioting broke out amongst the Liverpool support, a wall collapsed, leaving 39 Juventus fans deads, along with hundreds of others injured.

Authorities made the ridiculous decision to allow the match to proceed, with Juventus running out 1-0 winners in a match that few can actually remember.

14 Liverpool fans were charged with manslaughter, leading to 3 year sentences, whilst 10 others were cleared.

Liverpool FC and the club’s fans must never forget the 39 Juventus fans that died that day and our thoughts go out to the family and friends of those that died.
