Sales Director Kevin Clarke is celebrating today having been announced as the inaugural winner of The People’s Pundit, championed by the Carlsberg Fan Squad. Liverpool fan Clarke will now fulfill a lifelong ambition by broadcasting live on talkSPORT on the last day of the Barclays Premier League season.

Upon winning, Kevin Clarke said: ”It’s been an incredible journey from a one minute clip on YouTube to winning the competition and being on air for the last game of the season. It feels amazing. If there’s one thing this process has taught me it’s the important of preparation. I shall be swotting up this week on Liverpool and Stoke players and tactics before the weekend but it will all be worth it to be at the game!”

The grassroots competition has scoured the country since January to find a football fan ready to make the step up from the pub or sofa to the world’s biggest sports radio station. Clarke, who supports Liverpool but gets his regular football fix watching his local team Brighton & Hove Albion as a season ticket holder at the Amex, will now live out every football fan’s dream thanks to Carlsberg, the Official Beer of the Barclays Premier League.

The talisman of the Carlsberg Fan Squad and Sky Sports legend, Jeff Stelling, said: “Although the standard of entries was incredibly high, there was only one winner.  The purpose of the Carlsberg Fan Squad is to make football better for fans and The People’s Pundit has certainly delivered that for Kevin, I can’t wait to hear him on talkSPORT, I just hope he decides to stick to radio!”.

The People’s Pundit invited football fans to film and submit their own entries online, via Twitter, or in a touring van which visited Premier League stadiums earlier this year. Clarke, whose daughter prompted him to enter via YouTube, successfully overcame five finalists after taking part in a Boot Camp at Wembley and a series of rigorous challenges on air on talkSPORT.

Kevin Clarke was finally crowned champion after coming out on top from a combination of public votes, and a panel of judges including Sky Sports’ Jeff Stelling, talkSPORT’s Ray Parlour and Mark Saggers, and representatives of Carlsberg. Paul Morris, Carlsberg Brand & Activation Sponsorship Manager, added: “As the Official Beer of the Premier League, Carlsberg is committed through the Carlsberg Fan Squad to making football better for fans, this includes giving real fans the opportunity to get their voice heard on national radio. Kevin displayed fantastic passion during the competition and we can’t wait to tune in and hear him on talkSPORT.”.

Liam Fisher, talkSPORT Programme Director agreed: “Kevin was a deserved winner of the competition. The quality of the entries we received was very high. We can’t wait to welcome Kevin Clarke to our punditry team alongside the likes of Danny Murphy and Ray Parlour on the last day of the season”.

Carlsberg is the Official Beer of the Barclays Premier League, the Official Beer of Team England and the Official Tournament Sponsor of UEFA EURO 2016™.
