Liverpool were beaten against Hull again but turned it around against QPR

For the second successive season Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool were well and truly beaten at the KC Stadium.  It all but ended the glimmer of hope the team had in qualifying for next season’s Champions League. But let’s face facts (I’m not one to mince my words) if we were able to pull off the impossible and did qualify for the competition it would only paper over the cracks – Do you really think we deserve to finish fourth….. not for me after all the table does not lie the team are fifth based on how they have performed over the course of a season and at this rate we may not even finish in a Europa League position, despite the win over QPR.

Brendan Rodgers claims that there is no one better than himself to take Liverpool forward, I beg to differ. Tuesday evening he looked a forlorn figure, who is fighting to save his job, the players out on the pitch lacked the passion, conviction and willingness to win the match. It seems to me that they no longer want to play for the manager.  As manager of Liverpool Football Club he is tasked to change things tactically if they are not working however Rodgers looked completely out of his depth at the KC stadium.

Why, you ask?

When the pressure is on to challenge for 4th place or even reach a final whether it be the Capital One Cup or FA Cup they have completely crumbled unable to see the job through.  Since losing to Manchester United we have only won 2 of the last 7 fixtures in all competitions.

The phrase square pegs in round holes springs to mind and you only have to look by his team selection – it is not the first time this season either; Emre Can at right back (when Javier Manquillo is on the bench) Glen Johnson at left back who again showed that he’s not worthy of starting the remaining games after not putting in a performance you could be proud of; I lost count of how many times he was out of position and not able to keep up with the pace of the game.

Sadly, Balotelli needs a partner up front if he is going to be able to show what he is good at. The trees outside the KC Stadium moved more than he did in 60 minutes. Then Brendan had a brain wave on 80 minutes to ask Lazar Markovic to play right back rather than in his more natural attacking position.  It is clear for all to see that the manager is making things more difficult for himself he is making the same mistakes and not learning from them.

Since Rodgers made the statement that the team lacked goals, the few goal threats we had have suddenly dried up completely. It simply beggars belief that Everton’s defenders this season have actually more goals (9) than our strikers (8). It’s also apparent that the team are relying too much on the creativity of Philippe Coutinho he recorded the most shots-on-target, key passes and dribbles of any Red during the game (as well as grabbing the first against QPR) – despite completely non-existent support around him. I also have to question the possibility of Henderson as captain – you need to be a leader amongst men, be able to communicate and have the ability to inspire others (qualities that Steven Gerrard has in abundance) at this moment the team lacks the leadership that would improve their mentality and ultimately performances on the field.

Hard to say if Rodgers can get Liverpool where they were 25 years ago, but he’s doing a good job of taking them where they were 5 years ago.” – @rorysmithtimes

Kenny Dalglish summed it up when he said “If you look at the Liverpool staff at the moment, there are not many people who have much experience at winning”. – That has got to change quickly before it’s too late.

In conclusion Brendan Rodgers needs to acknowledge that he has made fundamental errors which could set the club back years and ask for assistance to correct them or FSG need to have a of change heart and appoint a manager who can.

Do you think Brendan Rodgers should be given more time to change things around at LFC?

I am a lifelong Liverpool supporter from Huyton Liverpool just like Stevie G and go all over the world supporting my team I go the games in my wheelchair as I suffer from Cerebral Palsy however that does not stop me having a ball cheering on the World’s Best Team.
I write a weekly column talking about various topics whether that is tactical analysis of matches, opinion pieces, looking through the archives of previous matches, former players and current articles on Brendan and the first team.
It is great being part of the first class writing team at Live4liverpool.com and bucking the trend in being the first woman to write for the site.
