As the season draws to a close, the transfer rumours will go into overdrive. Already during this campaign Liverpool, along with the other major clubs in world football, have been linked with numerous players in every single position, with seemingly a new player certain to move each day.

Nevertheless, at Anfield the rumours are even more noticeably large, and almost all turn out to be rumours or disappointments – even as recently as with Memphis Depay joining Manchester United.

Over the next few weeks, I will look at a selection of players who have been tipped to make a move to Liverpool for next season in each position. No doubt that many positions need strengthening if the Reds are going to make the top four next season, or achieve anything greater.

Manager Brendan Rodgers, if he stays, needs to be backed in the transfer market even if the net budget is lower because of the loss of revenue with no Champions League football. The sale of Luis Suarez last summer meant the net spend was not colossal by any stretch, nowhere near the same levels as the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

While I’m not expecting that kind of spending this summer, a net budget of £30m is reasonable and realistic, while there are many players who are set to leave the Anfield exit door, boosting both the transfer budget and the wage bill.

Rickie Lambert, Glen Johnson, Kolo Toure and of course Steven Gerrard are all set to depart on free transfers, meaning a loss of experience but a massive gain in wages.

Meanwhile, those on loan, such as Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, Sebastian Coates and Tiago Ilori could all depart Merseyside for good, and the likes of Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini, Jose Enrique, Javi Manquillo and Dejan Lovren may also be looking for a new club.

Whilst it’s unlikely every player above will leave, the majority are set to say good-bye to Anfield and Liverpool need to be preparing for this and seeking out the replacements needed for a strong first-team and squad to compete next season.

The Barclays Premier League is becoming tougher and tougher as the years go on and it is crucial that Liverpool get their transfer business right in this window.

With that in mind, here are five goalkeepers who could challenge or possibly replace Simon Mignolet, who, despite enjoying an excellent renaissance in 2015, cannot be relied upon as a No.1 throughout an entire season with no genuine competition.
