Bizarrely, Liverpool have not been outplayed once by Premier League winners Chelsea in any of the games the team has played against them but have not had a single positive result.
The game on Sunday was much like the 1st leg of the Capital One Cup semi final, with the Reds enjoying large periods of pressure, creating twice as many chances and – once again – failing to convert any of them.
The 1-1 at Stamford Bridge was a perfect microcosm of much of Liverpool’s season: moments of near brilliance, moments of calamity and an unerring inability to sustain pressure on a top sides and, ultimately, make it count.
We can only hope that the team’s lacking in a number of areas were again brought to the attention of the men that matter so that the club can ensure the mistakes of last summer are not made again.
But, with two games still to play, those are concerns for the season’s end. On to the player ratings.
