After the rumours and rumblings of the past 48 hours, it had always seemed less and less likely that Liverpool would be sacking Brendan Rodgers this week but now the news has been officially confirmed: Brendan Rogers is to stay on as the Liverpool manager.
Chairman Tom Werner and and FSG representative Mike Gordon held talks this afternoon with Rodgers, in an attempt to review the shortcomings of last season, pinpoint where the team went wrong and to get some idea of what the manager planned to do to improve on 2014-15 and, it seems, he answered all of their questions the right way.
According to the Liverpool ECHO this evening, the club have assured Rodgers that his job is not under threat going into next season, but that the coach needs to show serious improvement in both the transfer market and in the team’s displays on the pitch.
The team had a very disappointing Premier League campaign, compounded in a 6-1 defeat away to Stoke City on the last day of the season, whilst the performances in the Champions League were utterly abysmal. The Reds faired slightly better by making the semi finals of both domestic cups, but the main target at the start of the season – a place in next season’s Champions League – will no doubt have been the biggest issue.
Rodgers will be under immense scrutiny over the summer window, with the pressure on to adequately replace Luis Suarez (at the second try) and bring in a suitable replacement for the outgoing Steven Gerrard. Whilst the first few games of next seasons are, in many ways, likely to make or break Rodgers as Liverpool manager, given that a large majority of Liverpool fans now seem to have lost faith in the manager.
How do you feel about Rodgers being kept on; is this the right decision or have FSG got it badly wrong? Let us know your thoughts below.
Would be intersting to learn what actually is Roger’s improvement plan. No details yet.
Another 180 page dossier. The impostor strikes again
Rodgers has been a disappointment. He hasn’t won anything at all and will not at LFC. The players he is bringing in are at best mediocre and they will not win the league that way. No quality players want to come to Liverpool as the manager cannot attract them. Klopp etc can drea in players so I think unfortunately it will be another poor season for LFC
Agree totally. Very worrying!
I dnt think rodger need another chance atall he dnt have eyes 4 top players next season with rodger i think we might relegate pls bring back BENITEZ
I will not spend one more penny on LFC merchandise until Rogers has gone thr man is a jester
RODGERS IS A MEDIOCRE MANAGER,AND FSG PUPPET. WITH HIM ON THE HOT SEAT WE ARE GOING NOWHERE… MORE SAD DAYS TO COME,I’M AFRAID.
7th place here we come! We’re #7! We’re #7! Cant wait to see the class of clowns we bring in this Summer. More money wasted. Here’s an idea, post the fraking “comprehensive plan” on the LFC website. Step one: Don’t play people out of position. Step 2: Get a coach for the defense….
I think BR is the right man for the job all we need is a quality strickers Baloteli is a waste at Liverpool thanks I will always my Big number 8 stevie
The Red 4 live Brendan Rodgers is the right man for liverpool it just season he got it wrong by letting Luis go i think we can still sing quality strickers like Christian Bentecker Chalie Austin Dany Ings with James Miller comig in we are going to have very team to compet for the title next season the Red 4 life rember no one walks alon
Big Mistake…He stay…LFC…
What do you have to do to get sacked at Liverpool
I said it when he came and I will say it again he is not for Liverpool he is at best a mid table manager .
This sends out all the wrong messages it shows the owners are happy with mediocraty
and are standing by the worst manager in modern times at the club.
As for the so called new signings Benteke Ings etc they are not the right quality for a team that hopes to make the champions league.
My prediction is another season of failure and I will be surprised if Rogers gets past Christmas .
As for his almost won the leage claim the reason we came so close was because we had Suarez who realised we where going nowhere with Rogers and jumped ship
I dont think Rogers can handle big players or big games and for me the owners have made a huge mistake keeping him on.
What other top side would not have sacked him after such a dismal performance I cant think of one
