The 23 year old player could wind up at Anfield this summer

As the Reds look to start making ground on some top targets this summer, news has emerged in recent days that Liverpool are planning to scupper Manchester United’s attempts to sign Hoffenheim’s Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian has just finished another impressive season for the German side, with 10 goal in 36 games, along with 12 assists. The midfielder is currently on duty at the Copa America with Brazil.

United believed they had cleared the way to sign the 23 year old, but the Mirror reported on Saturday that Liverpool had been presented with an opportunity to sign the player, with his club holding out for closer to their £20 million asking price.

The player is believed to be set for a move to England, with his agent recently stating in German paper, Bild: “All I can say is that he’s moving to England”.

If the club could steal a march on United and bring the player in, it would go a long way to healing the wounds of losing out on Memphis Depay a coupe of months back.

Is the Brazilian the kind of player Liverpool needs; could he be the top player to help replace Suarez? Let us know your thoughts below.

Lfc owner needs to release money to sign players early. If u knw you want bacca you knw his worth 25m- 30m then sign him, Firmino will be a good mildfielder for lfc too likewise kovacic. Pls sell sterling and get his replacement, and if u want to sell him pls do it fast so u can act fast in the transfer market.

He would be a good signing , but he won’t be coming to us . Not sure with the limited finances we have he is what we need right now . We surely need to be looking at striker , Right back, Defensive midfielder and maybe if money allows a Centre back . And all these need to top draw signings . Personally I don’t think the board trust Rodgers with anymore money , I know I wouldn’t , I think the majority of the 212 million he has spent in the last three years has been completely wasted. So when it comes to new signings the one we should be making is a new manager.

You’re dead right Rodgers should’ve gone after the Stoke defeat he should’ve resigned,or FSG should’ve done the right thing and sacked him.
It’s strange how long this silence stance has gone on between Rodgers and fsg with no comments what so ever. Like everyone else we all no we need a top experienced manager in,I just hope we do get klopp eventually to help us challenge and to attract top quality players in as we should be challenging for the title next season never mind getting into the top 4.

Spot on Dave . Rodgers is well out of his depth at this is club. Ask yourself this question , is this squad Rodgers has assembled any better than the one he inherited 3 years ago . He spent 9 million on a goalkeeper that was not and is not as good as the one he lat go for nothing . Is Lovren or Sakho any better than Agger who he sold for 5 million yet spending over 30m on his replacements . He spent 7 million on illori 2 years ago , yet the lad has never been near the club . We won’t even start with Alberto and Aspas . The transfer dealings are beyond piss poor its downright negligent . What scares me is if we do sell Sterling for whatever we get for him , giving it to Rodgers to spend would no doubt be yet another disaster . As I stated earlier he has spent 212 million over 3 years yet the reality is only 20 million spent on Sturridge and Coutinho has been money well spent . Don’t get me wrong I don’t hold Rodgers completely to blame .FSG need to take a long hard look at themselves as well, And decide which direction they are taking our club . But Rodgers should be replaced and replaced now . I don’t go by this ” well he took us to 2nd season before last so he should be given another season ” we had the best player in the Premiership that season , possibly the third best player in world football as it now turns out . So the statement should not be well we finished 2nd , the question should be why did we not finish 1st..

Your right mark,I think one of the biggest problems is staring FSG in the face is the fact Suarez wanted to leave a couple of seasons ago is because he knew deep down that were not going to win anything under Rodgers and that’s what is happening with sterling even though the way he’s treating and disrespecting our club is an absolute disgrace he’s thinking the same were not going to win trophies unless a top manager comes in and that’s what’s happening we have the same pantomime every summer next year it will probably be coutinho.
