Sevilla’s Bacca, scoring in the Europa League last season

With Villa’s star man, Christian Benteke, seemingly ruled out of a move to Anfield. The Liverpool ECHO is today reporting that the Reds have now turned their attentions to either Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca, or Zenit’s Salomon Rondon.

The Colombian international Bacca and Venezuelan Rondon, are both currently on international duty at the Copa America, leading the line for their respective nations.

Rondon has long been a target for a number of top sides, but has rarely been prolific enough in front of goal to warrant one of the genuinely top sides to take a chance on him. The Venezuela international had a great season for Zenit last season, scoring 20 goals in 44 games and the ECHO reports he would be valued at around £15 million.

On the other hand, Bacca has been prolific throughout his career, most recently at Sevilla where he starred in a Europa League winning side for the second season in a row.

28 year old Bacca finished the season with 28 goals for Sevilla, 7 of which came in European competition, and despite his age, looks a good fit for Liverpool as he combines a proven track record of goals, experience in European competition and, more importantly, he would fit well with the clubs’ style of play.

The Colombian international would cost slightly more however, with a release clause believed to be in the region of £21.5 million. However, considering Liverpool were prepared to pay around £20 million for Benteke, it would seems strange that the club wouldn’t push that little bit harder to meet his release fee.

The ECHO reports that the club believe either striker would provide much better value for money that Benteke, who Villa reportedly want £32 million for, and either striker would bring a high level of European and international experience, which would mean they’d be ready to hit the ground running in the Europa and Premier League’s next season.

Would you prefer either of the two strikers reported by the ECHO today, or would you have preferred another target? Let us know your thoughts below.

Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca would be an ideal deal.

Bacca has proven his class more doing it in a tougher league and more consistently. Looks strong all round as a striker. With a fit Sturridge and an eager Ings those 3 would be good for this season. Not sure we’d need Rondon as well, money could be better used elsewhere. Hopefully the money Sterling brings in along with the sale of others though (Aspas, Alberto, Borini, Coates, Lambert, Allen, Ballotelli) will see proper quality come into the team and squad this summer.
