The Monaco man may be on the move this summer, maybe to Anfield?

With five transfers down and, according to reports, Liverpool’s number one transfer target – Roberto Firmino – wrapped up, and new defensive acquisition, Nathaniel Clyne seemingly done deal the club has now turned its attentions elsewhere with all areas of the squad up for further improvement.

Since Firmino’s signing was confirmed, two other interesting reports have emerged, with the Telegraph and Independent claiming that Liverpool are now taking a strong interest in Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour and are to move back in for Inter’s Mateo Kovacic.

Abdennour, the Telegraph report, has caught the attention of Liverpool at Monaco this season, and despite not making any official move for the player his own agent has confirmed the Red’s interest. He said: “There are lots of big clubs that are interested in Abdennour.

“There are clubs who have approached us and who will enter into contact with Monaco. There is AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Liverpool.

“I don’t think that Monaco will prevent Aymen from leaving.”

The Tunisian international only moved to Monaco last summer but is keen to move on to a bigger club, despite playing barely 25 games for the club. With Liverpool’s defence struggling at times last season, it may be that a central defender is – again – on the cards.

Elsewhere, the Independent is claiming that Liverpool are not yet done with their interest in Inter’s Mateo Kovacic, despite the expensive signing of Roberto Firmino on Wednesday morning.

Kovacic was the first exciting name to be linked with Liverpool after the season ended but interest seemed to have died down, with the club refusing to meet Inter’s demands for the player.

The paper is citing Geoffrey Kondogbia’s £28 million move from Monaco this week as reason for Kovacic seemingly wanting out, with Inter now somewhat overloaded in midfield. But considering Kondogbia is a defensive midfielder, whilst Kovacic is an attacking midfielder, it seems a strange line to draw between the two.

Either way, Kovacic to Anfield may be one that refuses to die down all summer long. At least until another exciting signing is made which, let’s hope, isn’t too far off.
