While it hasn’t quite been as lengthy as the Sterling to Man City saga, Liverpool’s pursuit of Christian Benteke has been quite protracted. But LFC have today announced the signing of Belgian striker Christian Benteke from Aston Villa.

The transfer took time, but it’s been done the way you’d expect a hefty transfer to be done, with negotiations, haggling and an eventual acceptance that you have to pay the price to get what you want. Thankfully, there hasn’t been any of the distasteful bile and back-biting that was part of the process of Sterling moving to Manchester City.

Benteke becomes Liverpool’s seventh signing of a busy summer, so far. And is also the club’s most expensive, costing £32.5 million, £3.5 million more than Roberto Firmino.

Unlike the utter excitement of Firmino’s signing though, many, many fans have serious reservations where Benteke is concerned.

However, the striker is highly thought of in the Premier League and will be a guarantee of goals for Liverpool this season, something that was sorely missing across the past year and if you want a guarantee of goals you have to pay the asking price.

In his three years at Villa Benteke scored 49 goals in just over 100 games, marking him as one of the most prolific front men in the league during that period.

Benteke will also join fellow Belgian striker, Divock Origi, at the club. So let’s hope the pair hit it off quickly and we see a great partnership emerge.

Welcome to Anfield, Christian Benteke!
