Luis Garcia and Didi Hamann attended a coaching session at the weekend with 60 youngsters from the cancer charity, CanTeen in Adelaide.

The players joined LFC Foundation coaches who delivered two fun, interactive coaching clinics – one with a group of 12 to 16 years olds and one with a group of 16 to 24 year olds.

After the sessions, the players presented all of the participants with LFC goodie bags. They also posed for photographs and signed autographs with the youngsters.

The Foundation also provided the charity with tickets to attend LFC’s match against Adelaide United at the Adelaide Oval Stadium.

CanTeen supports young people (12-24 year olds) when cancer turns their world upside down, whether they’re dealing with: having cancer themselves, a parent, brother or sister being diagnosed with cancer the death of a parent, brother or sister. They provide funding for specialist hospital care, counselling and individual assistance as well as information and peer support programmes.

From its humble beginning in 1985, CanTeen now offers counselling services and special youth cancer services as well as more than 255 free programmes every year to support, develop and empower young people living with cancer.

Didi Hamann, said: “It was an honour for me and Luis to visit these inspirational youngsters. Dealing with illness can be an extremely difficult time so to be able to provide them with some fun and football was really rewarding.”

Andrea Cooper, Head of Liverpool FC Foundation, added: “It was fantastic to have the support of the legends at our coaching clinic. All of the participants seemed to have a lot of fun whilst receiving a high-standard of professional football coaching, which is always what we aim to achieve.”
