LFC and United legends will clash in Sweden on the 3rd September

An exciting charity football match to benefit the Liverpool FC Foundation and Manchester United Foundation has further added to its roster of stars that will take to the pitch for the special match at the Friends Arena in Stockholm on the 3rd September 2015.

The Liverpool FC Legends team will be managed by all-time leading goal scorer Ian Rush, with Robbie Fowler as captain. Joining them will be former players Jason McAteer, Didi Hamann, Sander Westerveld, Phil Babb, Stephane Henchoz, Luis Garcia, Vladimir Smicer, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, Patrik Berger, Jerzy Dudek, David Thompson, Salif Diou, Steve Harkness and Abel Xavier.

Ian Rush, Liverpool FC Ambassador and Legends Team Manager, said: “These matches are notorious for their competitive rivalry and this game will be no exception. The lads are all looking forward to pulling the boots back on, and as manager I’ll personally be making sure they give it their all when they step onto that pitch.”

Legendary midfielder Bryan Robson will manage the Manchester United Legends, with MU Foundation trustee Denis Irwin in the captain’s position. They will be joined on the pitch by former United stars including Dwight Yorke, Ronny Johnsen, Quinton Fortune, Russell Beardsmore, Clayton Blackmore, Dion Dublin, Lee Martin, Karel Poborsky, Ben Thornley and Swedish winger Jesper Blomqvist.

Team captain Irwin, who made 529 appearances for United, is particularly excited to take part in the occasion: “As former players we always look forward to meeting back up to play in these matches and I’m sure this will be a good competitive match. I’m a trustee for Manchester United Foundation and we do a lot of work in the local community so it’s great that we have matches to raise funds for great causes.”

Proceeds will be going to Liverpool FC Foundation and the Manchester United Foundation to help support the two charities community projects.
