Liverpool are reportedly close to signing Traore

If, like many others, you thought Liverpool’s business was all but done for another summer transfer window you’d probably have been expecting perhaps another defensive addition, or cover for holding midfield, if anything at all.

What you probably wouldn’t think would be that the club was in the market for another attacking player but that’s exactly what looks like a possibility over the next couple of days as Liverpool close in on Barcelona’s youngster Adama Traore.

The 19 year old Spain U19s international is apparently a hot property this summer, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Manchester City having been keen to sign the young winger from Barca.

TalkSport, the Liverpool Echo and the Mirror have all reported stories in the past 24 hours that Liverpool are either interested in, or close to signing, Traore. Whilst some reports from Spain last night claimed the player was flying into Liverpool for a medical.

The Mirror have since run a story saying that the club has denied this. However, interest in the player has not been denied. Similarly, the Echo has also been running with the line that the Reds are not actually that close to signing the player, if they’re even interested in him at all.

Traore has spent the last couple of seasons playing for Barcelona ‘B’ and has had a handful of matches for the senior side. But he is highly rated by Barca so it’s currently unclear whether he’d be available on a permanent or a loan.

And whilst talented young players are always welcome, one concern is that there are reports Barca are demanding a clause in any deal, regarding Coutinho. It’s unclear what this clause would actually entail but it’s fairly obvious that the implications are Barcelona would want first refusal on Coutinho at some point in the future.

The Coutinho ‘clause’ is only rumoured at present though, and we can only hope that the club wouldn’t agree to such a ridiculous idea simply to sign a talented 19 year old.

Have you watched Traore in action; would this be a good signing for Liverpool? Let us know your thoughts below.
