Henderson believes Liverpool will avenge the last day of last season next weekend

The 2015-16 Premier League season is just six days away, and Liverpool fans can enter into the new season with a renewed sense of optimism. Not the juggernaut of optimism we experienced last August, after spending a fortune on new talent and, despite losing Suarez, looking to build on the previous season’s title challenge but optimism, nonetheless.

There are many new things to look forward to this season, from a new backroom staff and many new – very expensive – signings, to a renewed Anfield and, for the first time in a decade, a new club captain. Jordan Henderson, the Sunderland lad that was on the verge of leaving the club a couple of seasons ago will lead the Reds out against Stoke next Sunday and he believes the Reds will overturn the result from last year.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Henderson said: “There couldn’t be a better place for us to start and put what happened there last season to bed once and for all.

“The lads who were playing that day will remember it for quite some time. It was a horrible day for everyone involved.

“We have a determination to do better and to improve as a team. We are focusing on the future and that is the first game at Stoke. They are a good team but so are we.

“We will be stronger with the new players that we have got. We are a young team but we have brought in quality. I think the quality we have added will make a big difference.

“We have got a lot of character in the team. What happened there last year will only make us stronger. We have got to put it to bed.

“This is a new season, a new start. I think this is a really exciting time. We are quietly confident but we have just got to make sure that we go there, put in a proper performance and get a good result.”

The Reds had a big problem with goals last season, both conceding and scoring them, but with additional recruits (and very expensive ones) at both ends of the field, those problems should become a distant memory, provided they are integrated into the team properly. Beginning at Stoke next Sunday afternoon.
