Lucas could be leaving Anfield this summer

According to reports following the 1-nil win over Stoke City yesterday, Lucas looked set to move away from Anfield. And those reports have been confirmed today, as James Pearce has written – via the Dailypost website – that Liverpool are prepared to now listen to offers for Lucas Leiva.

The popular midfielder seemed to have won over his harshest critic, manager Brendan Rodgers, last season after winning his place in the side back with a string of top class performances that saw the Reds keep clean sheet after clean sheet over the Christmas and January period, but having fallen to injury again Lucas fell out of contention over the summer with the arrival of James Milner.

Pearce has stated that the Brazilian was left ‘crestfallen’ after being snubbed from the squad for Sunday’s game, with Jordan Henderson – bizarrely – being chosen as the deepest lying midfielder, despite both Henderson and Gerrard failing to make an impact from the same position on numerous occasions last season.

It is now believed that Lucas is considering his options, with a number of offers coming from Serie A. Despite his most recent snub, Lucas is still Liverpool’s strongest candidate for the holding role, but Rodgers appears to rate him behind Henderson, Milner, Can and even Joe Allen in the position, meaning Lucas now looks the most likely Liverpool player to be leaving Anfield this summer.

Having overseen the sale of some of Liverpool’s most popular (not to mention most vocal characters) since his arrival in Pepe Reina, Daniel Agger and now, seemingly, Lucas, Rodgers will have to pull something out of his hat to ensure Lucas’ absence isn’t too sorely felt.

What are your thoughts on the potential sale of Lucas before the end of the window, should the Reds only sell if a replacement is found? Let us know your thoughts below.

At his best Lucas is the difference between winning and losing matches. The problem is he takes about six weeks after injury to get near his peak, and he is getting more injury prone. The harsh reality is we probably should cash in now. Would be happy to see Allen go to, But he is injured AGAIN!!

I think Lucas should stay , and Allan should be the one to go? Lucas can still give some thing to the team not like Allan and if Rogers can’t see that I rely do thing Rogers should go after letting players like reina and agger go and replacing them with players which are not even half as good as them

BR Should be the one to go seems to me he does not like senior players who can stand up to him

  • Dan K says:

Can is adequate against second tier opponents and may be future stalwart in dm role but Lucas is by far best option esp vs top tier opponents. If Lucas is sold without replacement Rodgers risks undermining all other 2015-16 improvements.

Am totally disagree bcos if lucas left and injury occour like allen who will be replacement for him may be u want makovic to replace allen or emre can. We still need lucas

  • BillyOconnor says:

Get rid of Allen not good enough at this level
Lucas contributes far more and adds steel to midfield
Lucas must stay we need his experience at this time
