The Dortmund winger is apparently being considered for a transfer to Anfield

According to reports today, Liverpool aren’t quite finished in the summer market just yet. With only 259 wingers at the club currently, the Daily Express are claiming that Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring in an out of favour Borussia Dortmund attacker.

The player in question is the commentator’s nightmare, Jakub Blaszczykowski, who is apparently available after a couple of injury strewn seasons at the club.

The paper gets their information from German publication Bild who are led to believe that the 29 year old is ‘considering his future’ at Dortmund after failing to feature for the team yet this season.

Blaszczykowski has been at Dortmund for many years, first joining the club in 2007 and has gone on to make over 250 appearances, winning two German leagues, a cup and finishing runner-up in the Champions League final in 2013.

The Polish player still has a lot to offer and clearly has a lot of quality but it’s a strange, straight out of left-field rumour, that makes very little sense where the Reds are concerned.

All joking aside, the club currently has five players that either are, or can play as, out-and-out wide players or wingers, whilst there are a number of other options in attacking midfield. Several of which only arrived at Anfield this summer.

As yet, no valuation has been cited, however the report claims that the Dortmund player would be looking for increased wages – something that is unlikely to be sanctioned for a 29 year old, who turns thirty in December.

Mark this as highly unlikely, although give them points for coming up with a new name.

Liverpool have only Jordan Ibe in the starting XI, or ready to play consistently in the first team, that as a natural wide midfielder.

Firmino, Coutinho, Lallana, and Markovic are ALL inverted wingers who cut in. They may start in wide positions, but invariably cut in.

Have you noticed how in both pre-season and in the 2 games Ibe plays he is immediately swamped? its because hes the furthest wide player, and teams have sussed out that he is the only player capable of making a meaningful cross that can cause damage —hence why he always has 2 players marking him out wide.

This is his first full season in the first team, and given the failures/inconsistency of players who have been given chances before, this deal actually makes a lot of sense.

With the sale of Raheem Sterling, Liverpool are ACTUALLY light a right sided attacking player to support Ibe carry the load.

Though Firmino was bought, he is actually a left sided AM who was meant to allow Countinho to slot into a central position.

So, rather buy a player who would be willing to be a squad player, provides cover, and has experience/quality at a price point that doesnt set back LFCs transfer budget.
