The 26 year old Armenian international has apparently seen a bid accepted for him

The more things change, the more they stay the same.. said a very wise somebody, many years ago. It’s almost as if they were making predictions of players that would be linked with Liverpool indefinitely, as we have more news on Illarramendi today along with the resurfacing of an old name that has been perma-linked with the Reds since 2013 – Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Starting with Illarramendi, whom the Mirror reports is still a possibility for Liverpool, despite reports yesterday (that we reported on this morning) claiming he was probably going to end up at Juventus. Apparently, Madrid mouth-piece Marca are claiming that Liverpool are still interested in the 25 year old and see him as a great addition to the current midfield.

It’s hard to know what to do with these rumours anymore, as ‘Illarramendi to Liverpool’, ‘Illarramendi not coming to Liverpool’ seems a daily occurrence, with local sources claiming no knowledge of a bid, whilst sources local to Madrid claim we’re still in for the player. Make of it what you will; he would get Reds fans excited but who knows where he’ll now end up?

As for Mkhitaryan, this story eminates from the slightly more reputable source of the Independent, who claim that Liverpool haven’t just revivied interest in the 26 year old Armenian star but have actually had a bid accepted for the player. £15 million is the fee that’s apparently been accepted.

It seems a very odd one, considering the sheer amount of attacking options Liverpool have, and it may indicate that a loan move for one of the current options (or a possible sale?) could be on the cards if this one comes true.

That said, the paper only cites ‘sources’, so it’s hard to know where these rumours are coming from. If true, he’d be a great acquisition, having been a great addition to Dortmund’s side since his move but it would be a massive surprise if Dortmund were prepared to let a player that had already scored twice this season leave so cheaply.

Let’s hope we get them both ! Either of them better than Hendo, Milner , Allen or Can

This is all becoming a pantomime now. It is simply nonsense to believe that we are trying to get either Illarramendi or Mkhitaryan. Don’t you think that this late in the month we would have had them/one if it were true? A couple of weeks ago LFC said there would be no more buying and so far at this late date that seems to be the only truth out there – send for Mulder!
