Sturridge is not far from returning to the team for the Reds

It’s been many months in the making and his absence was felt much more keenly that we anticipated last season but Daniel Sturridge’s return is barely a few weeks away.

Fans around the globe are salivating at the prospect of Sturridge linking up against with Philippe Coutinho, but now there are the added dangers of Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke – the first strike partner worthy of Sturridge since Luis Suarez departed last year.

But Brendan Rodgers has insisted today that Sturridge won’t be rushed back into action. A great idea, in light of what has happened on the last two occasions when he’s been rushed back from injury.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Rodgers said: “There’s no timeline on Daniel. He has obviously been away working in America.

“He has come back and it’s just about him working hard now to get somewhere near the level of the group. There’s no time on it.

“He came back and looks well – he’s really excited and happy to be back among his teammates. We’ll just have to take that week on week, rather than put any sort of pressure on a time for him.”

Having caught many brief glimpses of Sturridge’s comeback, it’s fair to say that the 25 year old looks as sharp as ever and his hunger to play in Red again will be greater than ever, having missed so much of last season.

Despite his injuries, Sturridge still managed to score 5 goals, something which showed even more what a player Liverpool were missing and despite Rodgers claims that he won’t be rushed back, his return can’t come soon enough.

Are you looking forward to Dan’s return, and how should the team lineup once he’s back? Let us know your thoughts below.

Liverpool won’t rush Daniel Sturridge back, but that wont stop Hodgeson from calling him up.

Liverpool wont rush Daniel Sturridge back ! For the simple reason that right now they dont need to. If he plays with Benteke it wont be down the middle, he would have to replace Coutinho or Firminho
