Lovren is beginning to show great form and hopes the Reds can keep theirs up too

It may have been a bittersweet draw at the Emirates on Monday night, with Liverpool’s profligate finishing in the first half the only thing between a well fought draw and a great victory, but there is no doubting that the Reds’ improved form this season has been a cause for excitement amongst Liverpool fans.

The team struggled at both ends of the field against Stoke and Bournemouth, showing flashes of quality at both ends, with a moment of brilliance and a poacher’s effort the difference between Liverpool and those sides.

But against Arsenal thing really seemed to be beginning to click, with the defence responding to increased pressure from – supposedly – one of the strongest attacks in the Premier League comfortably. Meanwhile, at the opposite end, Liverpool created more clear chances than in both previous games. There are definitely positive signs at both ends.

And Dejan Lovren believe the Reds must keep this form going, particularly with a number of tricky games to come before and after the international break.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Lovren said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game – and we lost here last season – but after the first two games of the season, we had a lot of confidence, so we came here looking for three points.

“I’d say we’re disappointed [not to have won]. Especially in the first half, we had so many chances. They also had some good chances.

“But I think we were defensively perfect and everyone did a great job. We need to continue like this and the goals will come.

“The first thing for us was not to concede and then after that, to finish [chances].

“Cech was amazing and made a brilliant save from Benteke on the line.

“But in the end, it’s a good point because we know it’s tough here every time.”

While goals are a worry, with just two in the opening three games, Lovren is spot on about how defensively sound Liverpool looked against Arsenal. Something which is a great bedrock for the visit of West Ham on Saturday, a team who have conceded 6 goals in the last two league games.

Are you pleased with the start the team has made, and can the Reds put a few goals away against West Ham on Saturday? Let us know your thoughts below.
