Motta is being reported as a potential alternative to Madrid’s Illarramendi

If you’ve had your fill of the ‘Asier Illarramendi to LFC’ reports, then this morning there’s a new spin on the story that involves a veteran PSG player that, depending on how you look at it, makes absolutely no sense to Liverpool at all.

It’s widely known that the Real man could see his future lying elsewhere this summer, particularly after Madrid officially signed Mateo Kovacic from Inter Milan on Tuesday afternoon. The 25 year old could now, no doubt, find himself at fourth in the midfield pecking order.

But while it seems he’s almost certain to leave, Liverpool are the only name that are ‘believed’ to be interested. That said, reports from the Liverpool Echo claim that the newspaper are not aware of any interest from Liverpool, as yet.

With that in mind, the Metro and the Telegraph have decided (seemingly between themselves) that Liverpool will turn to Thiago Motta of PSG, should Illarramendi not eventually move to Anfield.

There seems to be little in the way of facts behind this, other than the fact that Motta himself spoke – somewhat angrily – on the subject of his future, as discussed by the club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

The PSG president has simply indicated that Motta is not for sale. Motta has since been quoted as saying, basically, ‘you never know’, what with the transfer window being open for another 2+ weeks and all. The outcome? Liverpool must be interested.

There’s no doubting that the midfielder still has a lot to offer but considering the 28 year old Lucas seems to be on his way, whilst the club has already signed a 29 year old midfielder this summer, it seems highly unlikely that the very youth-centric Brendan Rodgers (and FSG) are likely to sanction a move for a 32 year old.

But, we could be wrong.. How would you feel about signing Motta? Let us know your thoughts below.
