The striker has impressed everybody since the season began

While there are few that haven’t found themselves thoroughly impressed with Christian Benteke since the start of the season, even fewer could have expected the Belgian striker to settle in so quickly, striking up a growing partnership with the Reds’ star man.

And Brendan Rodgers, no doubt thrilled at finally getting the player he’s always wanted (not to mention proving one or two of us wrong in the process) has been singing the striker’s praises.

Speaking after the match to Liverpoolfc.com, Rodgers said: “I thought he was outstanding.

“He has obviously been labelled a certain type, probably because of his size. But you see the quality of his touch, his movement to spin in behind, to come short, his set-up play and, of course, he’s a real threat in the air.

“He was unfortunate not to score in the first half – it was a great ball in by Firmino, he’s got a touch on it and Petr Cech makes a good save.

“He’ll be disappointed he didn’t score but his overall contribution was outstanding.”

As Brendan Rodgers points out, many assumed certain things about Benteke, mostly due to his large size, unfairly labeling the forward nothing more than a typical ‘big centre forward’ (although not if you’ve ever watched him play) but he’s already proven many wrong with his pace, quick feet and intelligent link-up play with his team mates; Philippe Coutinho, in particular.

With Roberto Firmino not quite fully fit, Ings and Origi yet to get a chance and the return of Daniel Sturridge a month away, Rodgers has many options to pair with Benteke and they idea of seeing the £32 million man paired with any of them is a mouth-watering prospect.

Are you happy with Benteke so far, and who should be played along side him? Let us know your thoughts on Benteke in the comments.
