Dan Sturridge could well still star for Liverpool this season

Well, everyone else is writing their season predictions.. so I suppose it’s time I joined in. The wait is nearing its completion with a trip to Stoke on Sunday.  And we are all tired of hearing it, but we have a big point to prove, not only to Stoke, but to the rest of the League. A good start is important and with the improvements we have made I believe it is possible. I am very excited to see the new-look team in action as Brendan once more seems to have a side capable of outscoring most others. Which leads to my predictions.

The Return of Goals: It seems clear from the decisions in defensive acquisitions, namely the decision not to purchase a new center back, that Rodgers was less concerned with shoring up the defense and more concerned with making sure we would simply outscore our opponents.  That strategy worked well two years ago and this year I believe we will see a return of goals to Anfield. We may not get fourth but we will be entertaining.

Adam Lallana: I have said it before, but this is going to be a big year for him. He is a fantastic player, and we saw that between injuries, last season. He has been impressive during the preseason, he is skillful, intelligent, creative, and can score plenty a goal. I have him in my fantasy team and I expect him to be the signing we all imagined this season. He will surprise us.

Daniel Sturridge: I again will go out on a limb and say he will outscore Benteke, though that partnership sounds delicious. I believe he will quickly return to form, as he always has coming off injury, and he will stay healthy. I may be coming off a tad optimistic but I foresee Sturridge making a huge mark on this season.

Final Place: It is hard to choose between the 4th I desperately want and the 5th I imagine we will get. If we do take 4th I think it will be over Man City.

Europa League: This is more of a dream than a prediction, but I would love to see us win the competition. Brendan needs a trophy this season and this would see us return to the Champions League as well. We could win the competition, but I am not sure how much of an influence will be placed on doing so. There will be impressive and storied sides as the competition progresses, and I think placing a high importance on the Europa League would be an interesting, and fun change. European football is fun no matter the competition.

Carling Cup or FA Cup semis: I see us returning again to the semi-finals of one of these cups. My hope is that we will win one of them, but I am willing to bet we at least find ourselves in the semi-final.

I am looking forward to this season. Football is finally back and it is refreshing to think we are mere days away. I have high hopes for this season as the optimism of a fresh start always brings. At the very least Liverpool will be more fun to watch than last season.

Enjoy the match against Stoke!
