When two of your club’s greatest players and most well-respected legends turn on the current manager, you know things aren’t going well. But that’s exactly what has happened to Brendan Rodgers today, as he finds himself in the firing line of Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness.

After a humbling defeat away to Manchester United on Saturday night Rodgers was bound to come in for some stick, and the fans are almost 100% in the ‘sack the manager’ camp now – this isn’t unusual for most managers. However, with former players, and particularly one who so recently played under Rodgers come out firing you know the whole situation has become utterly dire.

Speaking following the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United, Carragher said: “I said before the game it must be two up front with a diamond formation but he still played 4-3-3.

“I don’t understand what the point was in playing Danny Ings in that wide position. He still didn’t give the support to Benteke.

“Look at how many strikers Liverpool have on the books, they don’t have wide players. Firmino isn’t a wide player.

“Origi came on as a striker and he’s still got Sturridge to come back so I don’t understand this obsession with playing 4-3-3.

“Brendan Rodgers came to the club wanting to play 4-3-3 and it didn’t work. The great season Liverpool had was with two strikers.

“He’s got a lot of strikers and no wide players but he continues to play 4-3-3.”

The huge criticism of Rodgers’ obsession with his favourite formation has been long-standing, yet despite Liverpool’s best spells under him coming when playing anything but, he always seems to deviate back, often alienating and misusing players in the process.

Continuing the theme of alienating and misusing of players, Souness added: “It was square pegs in round holes. It just didn’t work.

“Firmino doesn’t want to be out there and nor does Ings, who spent most of first half running back towards his own goal.

“You have to make players feel comfortable in the positions they are playing in. It was only when Jordon Ibe came on that Liverpool had a naturally wide player who was happy to be there.

“Liverpool had players who didn’t look like they were enjoying their football.”

While many may not pay much heed to what Souness has to say, considering, it has to be said that his points are incredibly valid and Rodgers isn’t simply messing up with regards to tactics, he’s completely ruining players of great value by constantly playing them out of position.

Where can things go from here; do you think the manager has a future at Anfield? Let us know your thoughts on the defeat yesterday below.

BR was always playing “not to lose” rather than “to win”. Only when we were 2-0 down did we show any attacking game. Mid table manager mentality at best. BR have to go…

The worst permorance against an average manc side I have ever seen. We need a world class manager and that is not Rogers, can some one tell him that NO one is bigger than my beloved Team, his ego, tactics, substituions and many times selections have been unreal.

Liverpool have lost their identity since Rodgers came in he can never handle pressure in liverpool,he should go back 2 cristal palace or sunderland,i think in most liverpool position Rodgers is managing players an lfc are not club of managing players is a club of high calibar of players,we have a very good squard but Rodger principle is killing him,in our lose 2 united we dnt hve a single players that can hold ball in the midle jst because Firminho play out of possition.am a Rodgers fan but am tired now and I think he should b sack Imidaitely.

We dont need Kloop as Lfc manager we need, this is not the right time to bring in an outsider bcos the team has been shatered. We need som1, one of our Legends, CHARAGHER will give us wat we want. He is tough n real unlike the soft hearted rodgers who wants to showcase to the world that he has the spirit of sportmanship by laughing n feeling free with even rival managers. Am tayad of rodgers and am still wondering what the owners have seen to keep faith with him. If CARA will not be made the boss at list, he should play the roll giggs is playing at utd with Kloop as Boss

Living on borrowed time. For the life of me, I don’t know what he did to get the time. Nothing has been learned from last season, and the case for him to be sacked, is stronger then ever. He won’t resign, not the type, not without a paycheque .

Rodgers has to leave… His time is up… He has lost his way… He’s still indulging in his tag “tactical genius” in the media circus… He still doesn’t know he is the one who lost the title for us and not Stevie’s slip… Sack him now before it’s too late…!!!

I can’t believer BR PHILOSOPHY any longer. He’s messing this gsup at Liverpool. We’re all not happy.Secondly, He should keep Gomez on bench for Moreno to play left back.Gomez is not a first class 1st team for now.
