With Liverpool’s star striker just a week or so away from full fitness, the Reds will be hoping to take advantage of Sturridge’s long lay off to get the best out of him straight away. Brendan Rodgers will almost certainly be hoping that some of the striker’s goalscoring prowess rubs off on some of his team mates.
And with a number of younger strikers at the club, he’ll certainly be looked to to lead the way when it comes to showing what it takes to become a top Premier League striker.
Danny Ings, in particular, is hoping to learn a lot from Sturridge, a player he has great respect and admiration for. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Ings said: “He’s a fantastic striker, he scores many goals, he’s sharp, he works hard, so it will great to have him back.
“He’s another player that I can learn from. He’s been doing it at the top level for many years now so it’s great to have him back and I’m looking forward to working with him.
“I think everybody here has different qualities as strikers and it’s only better for all of us to learn from each other – and especially for me to learn off them, the more experienced strikers here.
“It’s great to have so many good strikers at the club for me to learn from.”
Ings has yet to really get his chance, apart from a brief, impressive cameo against West Ham last week but will be hoping to make his mark soon.
Would you like to see Ings and Sturridge paired together, or even a three-pronged forward line including Benteke? Let us know your thoughts below.
I do prefer the 4 3 3 formation where there will be a chance to get more goals with the like of sturridge ings and benteke on point
