Ings is hoping for his chance against Manchester United

After having joined the club with little fanfare in the summer and impressing when given the chance over the summer, Danny Ings has yet to make his first official start for LFC.

However, after a second half runout in the defeat on Saturday, which saw Philippe Coutinho sent off, Ings may get his chance alongside Christian Benteke against Manchester United next Saturday night at Old Trafford.

The young English striker has shown a willingness to work hard and wait for his chance, and he seems unlikely to let the opportunity pass him by when it does arrive.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Ings said: “On a personal level it was great to make my first appearance for the club but at the same time it was a game to forget about.

“To be fair to the fans they gave me a great ovation even though we were 2-0 down with 10 men, so that was really pleasing.

“I come in every day and work hard. There’s a lot of quality players here who have been brought in for big money, as everyone is aware of.

“I made a huge step coming in from Burnley with all due respect, to Liverpool so for me I knew I had to be a lot more patient than the other strikers that we’ve got here.

“I’m working hard every day to improve so that when I do get my chances I can take them with both hands and enjoy the moment.”

Along with Divock Origi, Ings is one of three first team strikers the Reds currently have available and it will be interesting to see which option Brendan Rodgers goes with but regardless of his choice Ings is likely to get plenty of games once European competition commences.

He continued: “It’s going to be an exciting time with all the games coming up playing Thursday and Sunday football, so hopefully I’ll get more chances.”

Should Ings be given the nod to start next Saturday, or would you choice a different option? Let us know how you’d line up in the comments.
