The Liverpool manager wants his players to come out fighting tonight

Following struggling to score in every game this season, the worry for Liverpool is that, while Rodgers is still failing to find a solution to Liverpool’s defensive issues, he has now lost his touch when it comes to re-finding that attacking flair we used to know too.

Just a couple of games in the opening two games, preceded two goalless games against Arsenal and West Ham, whilst the solitary Benteke striker against Manchester United was nothing but a late consolation. Against Bordeaux Rodgers must ensure his side rediscover their goal-scoring touch and he believes the team will come out firing in France tonight.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, via the Daily Mirror, Rodgers said: “I know we have to get back to that exciting way of working we have had for the past couple of seasons. I repeat, we have to ensure we reintroduce the way we have been working in the last few years.”

Rodgers has come in for a great deal of criticism for the way Liverpool have retreated to a more cautious, un-threatening stance this season and despite the attacking recruits brought in over the summer a goal has never looked further away since the season began.

He continued: “There’s no temptation to be cautious, no. It fits hand in glove in terms of how we want to work.

“We have seen in the last few performances when we don’t play so well and bring our ideas into the game, then we have far less chance of winning. So we have to get back to our way off working, and it gives us a greater chance to get results.

“The key thing is getting the performance level right. You can always lose a game, but it is how you lose them; and the last couple of defeats haven’t been ways you want to lose a game.

“Over the opening games we got some results but not been at that level of intensity of our game.

“We’re about being on the front foot and having that courage to play and play with that freedom but also a structure. That’s something we will really focus on.”

There is no doubting that the manager has the players at his disposal to really go for the throat in France but whether the confidence is there after recent results, remains to be seen.

European leagues traditional philosophy has always dictated to at least tie an away game and win all the home matches and moving on is assured! So, let’s win tonight or at least a tie… YNWA
