Transfer rumours have gone a little quiet since the window closed, as you’d expect but the latest reports from Spain should be worrying for Liverpool fans in the extreme.
Claims via Fichajes suggest that Barcelona are very keen on the Reds’ Brazilian playmaker and, while Liverpool are not keen to do business, Barca feel that an official approach could lead to some sort of business being done.
It’s a sad state of affairs that, in the space of 18 months Liverpool have gone from the verge of winning the Premier League to now – seemingly – becoming a feeder club for Barca.
Perhaps most concerning of all is that the club’s start to the season may act as a catalyst for both Barcelona to make a move and for Coutinho to express an interest to leave.
Considering the current state of the club, losing the club’s current most important player would be disastrous. And, whether there is any truth to these claims or not, should act as a wake-up call to the club that slipping standards will see Liverpool lose many more talented players if the slide isn’t halted.
