This is probably the closest Ings has gotten to wearing the Red of Liverpool in earnest since signing but Aldridge believes he should be given his chance against Man Utd

With a dreadful result at home to West Ham on Saturday now likely to hang over Brendan Rodgers and his players for the next 11 days, there is plenty to think about ahead of the now even more important clash against Manchester United on the 12th September.

Much of the discussion in the build up to that game will centre around who should start at centre back; should Mamadou Sakho be given his opportunity in light of Dejan Lovren’s awful display, or should Kolo Toure be brought in to provide calm and experience?

However, not enough has been made of Liverpool’s complete lack of threat in front of goal in recent games and, with Philippe Coutinho’s red card against West Ham meaning he’ll miss the match at Old Trafford, a chance to replace him in the side could be open.

And Reds’ legend John Aldridge believes that this could be Danny Ings’ big opportunity to force himself into the side. In his article for the Liverpool Echo, Aldo said: “The one bright spot was Danny Ings when he came on.

“I thought he did really well.

“He looked very lively, like he could make things happen, and I think the lad can do well for us.

“He’s definitely given the manager something to think about. [Brendan] Rodgers could sometimes put him up top along with Benteke, or even in behind. We could be better off doing that.

“In fact, he might be the perfect man to play alongside Benteke against United. With Coutinho suspended, there’s a space that needs filling.”

Should Danny Ings be allowed to show what he can do from the start against Manchester United on the 12th? Let us know your thoughts below.

Honestly I prefer Danny Ings to even benteke cause is inability to control d ball and get pass defenders wich Ings can do apart from is display at burnley
Last season we saw is lil display against west ham I wish he can be give like a start in atleast three consecutive matches as our top nine

    hi,

Ings should be given the opportunity to play. Now that we have lose three crucial points at home, it’s very much important that we get in the winning tend. But from what I have seen so far, I feel that we are heading towards a disastrous season….B.Rodgers will have to work out his brain and get the right balance between the defence and attacking force….If Liverpool does not win this match against Man Utd, who is not quite the team they were formerly, then it’s time for Rodgers to be shown the way out.
I sincerely believe that Liverpool can win the match but it all depends on the tactics that our manager will use….

Brendan rodgers will destroy benteke the way he did with lambert and balo. They are all similar. He should play two up top. With a diamond in the middle. Play moreno as gomez can’t hit a cross with his left. Play sahko over lovern. Mourinho is successful because he drops players that aren’t performing. Remember him subbing joe cole, terry etc. But Brodgers doesn’t have the balls for it. He only raves about a poor performances and players as being outstanding, exceptional etc why did he loan markovic to turkey? Why was headless lallana starting matches? Why was lovern ahead of sahko? Jao texiera is better than lallana but he is being ignored. If brodgers fails he has no one to blame but himself, because he has the players to challenge. But he picks them(allen, lovern, lallana etc) based on sentiments not performance.

Ings scored a hatrick during pre-season, when I watched him play he was chasing balls down and a live wire like Saurez. He’ll run more than beteke on anyday. I had faith in Rodgers but now I can’t stop thinking about Klopp managing Liverpool. Klopp for the Kop

We need to play 442 diamond and utilise Ings’ pace, how can we ditch the formation which almost brought Glory to the club?Rodgers=confusion
