Brendan Rodgers saw his side scrape home on Saturday

With a close to match-fitness Daniel Sturridge Liverpool were a slightly different prospect against Aston Villa on Saturday. Those old defensive frailties were still there but gone was the lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

It was Sturridge – and Suarez – on whom the last title challenge was built, it was also those two supreme striker’s goals that papered over the cracks of a deep inability to not concede goals. Sturridge may, once again, reinforce Rodgers’ position as Liverpool’s manager. Provided he doesn’t get another injury.

For Liverpool fans, Sturridge’s current climb back to full fitness is heading in the right direction, and his sharpness, intelligence on – and off – the ball, and incredible goal-scoring haven’t abated at all. That, at least, will give us all a great deal to be excited about.

Huge problems still exist, and a huge majority of Reds’ fans still want big changes but three points will do. For now.

Good to have the win and STU. looking to getting back to form, more like a Liverpool performance against Villa. Still need two very good central defenders or we will continue to struggle, Sakho can’t seem to get off the ground for high balls. Always thought Moreno was more suited to a more central roll and could replace Lucas or Allen.
    Onwards and Upwards.

Rodgers is blaming Jamie Redknapp for trying to push him out. I’ve heard what Jamie just said about any manager will be under pressure until they deliver the league , but he is wrong ! Give the fans some credit, we don’t expect to win the league right now , but we expect to see the team perform better . We have seen a lot of money spent and Rodgers persist with players like lovren and mignonet as if to prove us wrong and then trying to play players out of position as though he wants to prove he is some genius . We just want to see Liverpool in the top 4 for now on a consistent basis and hope for a nice cup here and there. We are looking like a mid table team at the moment and have been for a while , that’s why it’s so obvious a new manager is needed
