After being appointed as Liverpool manager on Thursday, half the world seems to have had their say on the German’s appointment and now Alex Ferguson, the former Manchester United boss, has weighed in.
Surprisingly, he had nothing but good things to say about the former Borussia Dortmund manager; a man that he claims to know well through various coaching meetings.
Speaking to ESPN, Ferguson said: “Well it’s a good appointment. I admire him. I know Jurgen pretty well through our meetings at coaches’ classes in Geneva.
“Strong personality, very strong, very stubborn, determined and his performances, and his career at Dortmund was a stellar rise to the top and I think he’ll do very well.”
More often than not, when Ferguson had anything positive to say about a player or fellow manager during his time at Man Utd, it tended to set alarm bells ringing, as it usually meant he didn’t perceive them as a threat.
However, his kind words about Klopp came before his final, very telling comment on the new Liverpool manager. He said: “I don’t like saying that, being Liverpool, because I’m worried about it but, no, he’ll do well.”
Ferguson’s words seem to echo what much of the fanbases of rival clubs have had to say, in that Klopp could be the most important signing Liverpool have made in over 10 years and could well guide the Reds back to the top of the English game.
