With just four days to go until Liverpool play for the first time under Jurgen Klopp, coverage of the German manager – and his potential effects on the team – are likely to continue apace over the next few days, and we’re no different!
We’ve heard from former managers and players, current players and retired managers of other clubs. But following the latest international break, the star man of the side that will be Klopp’s first game in charge has spoken of the excitement of the Reds players in the England camp.
Speaking following England’s game against Lithuania, Kane said (via FourFourTwo) magazine: “In the first couple of games after a managerial appointment everybody tries to impress so they will probably have that little 5% extra than usual.
“We expect that.
“The Liverpool players at England could not wait to get back to start working under him.”
With Klopp only having the bare bones of a squad to work with since Monday morning, he’ll welcome back the core of his first team squad over the next 24 hours and will be hoping for enough time to make enough of an impression on his players to squeeze that ‘5% extra’ out of them that Kane mentioned.
But the England striker believes that Spurs will be just as up for it and will be a tough prospect for the Reds and thinks his side can get a result, despite having lost 0-5 and 0-3 to Liverpool in the past two seasons.
He continued: “But we have out-run every team we have played so far this season and that’s a sign we’re playing the manager’s tactics right and are fit enough to do it. And that’s what we have to do again on Saturday.
“Obviously Liverpool, with a new manager, will be up for it. But we know what we have to do.”
Having seen a number of his players spent 10 days away on international duty, it’ll be interesting to see which players he entrusts to do him justice in his first Liverpool game in charge.
