Klopp was pleased with what he saw in his first game today

His first game at White Hart Lane today couldn’t have been anymore built up if the press and fans had tried, with dozens of cameramen kneeling before the German manager on the touchline prior to kickoff and fans already having banners with his face on in the crows. But, thankfully, the new Liverpool manager got off to a promising start with a 0-0 draw at a resurgent Tottenham.

The match was a tight affair, with Liverpool having the better of the first half, pressing Spurs high up the field and not giving the home side a second to settle in with Adam Lallana and Alberto Moreno, amongst others, coming flying out of the blocks.

But as the game began to even out, it was a fairly balanced game, with both sides having decent chances. Simon Mignolet kept Liverpool’s clean sheet intact in the second half and deserves credit for a couple of top saves.

The absence of so many first team stars was a worry for the new manager prior to kickoff, with Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings all limiting the Reds option in attack. A late injury to Daniel Sturridge also raising concerns and handed Divock Origi his first start.

The young striker worked hard, but had few chances of note. He could find himself thrust into action again on Thursday, at home to Ruben Kazan where he’ll hopefully have more quality service and a few more chances.

But Jurgen will have been pleased with the start, a clean sheet and can now look toward a few home games where Liverpool will be expected to keep the first half pressure up and put a few goals away too.
