It’s now less than 48 hours until Liverpool take to the field at White Hart Lane for the team’s first game under the leadership of new manager, Jurgen Klopp.

The German has had barely a couple of days to train with his players, with most being away on international duty until Wednesday morning but he appears confident that his players can do well, and has thrown down the challenge to take the game to Spurs.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (via MailOnline), Klopp said told the assembled press: “We play against a very good Premier League team in Spurs. They are fine tuned. We know how they want to play.

“I know how I want to play. At the end it is only football. Now we have to open our chests, run and fight and shoot.

“We have to play like our best dream.

“I want to see more braveness. I want to see fun in their eyes. I want to see that they like what they do.

“The bravery is to make mistakes. This is a fantastic game, football. We all love it because it can be spectacular, fast, hard.”

The 48 year old has won many fans, both home and abroad, for his style and charisma at Borussia Dortmund and was speak to an absolutely packed house ahead of his first match.

But the manager is keen that all the focus is on the game, and that his players approach it in a way that brings positives for both fans and players. Namely, he wants his players to ‘have fun’, aware that mistakes will be made but clearly believes that results and success don’t come without being brave on the field.

He continued: “But it doesn’t work without faults. We all, as human beings, think about them, but it’s not important to think about how many mistakes you make.

“You can always get better, if you accept that mistakes will happen. It’s not the biggest thing in the world.

“We have to be compact, close together tactically, and if you are close then you have options to play with and who can support you. You don’t always have to try the most risky ball if you are compact.

“You have to run, to fight, until the moment, and then bang you take it.”

Of course, the bad news in the last 48 hours of the injuries to Danny Ings and Joe Gomez leaves Klopp with just Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi left as out-and-out centre forwards, which may mean his plans will be slightly altered. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see which players Klopp believes are ‘brave’ enough to take the game to Spurs on Saturday morning.
