In a bizarre turn of events, a Liverpool side may actually go to Stamford Bridge on Saturday morning as marginal favourites to win a Premier League match against Chelsea.

It’s something that has been rare in the past 10 years, for Liverpool to be favourites at all, but it’s highly unlikely any Liverpool side has been favourites to beat a Jose Mourinho Chelsea side, in either of the Portuguese manager’s two spells in charge.

But Jurgen Klopp does not quite see it that way, instead believing that Chelsea have not been quite as bad as many believe and that it would be a mistake to underestimate Mourinho and his Chelsea team.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference (via Liverpoolfc.com), Klopp said: “I’m not close enough to Chelsea to know the reasons and I’m not a journalist – I don’t have to think all day about why things are like they are.

“I’m interested, of course, in the football Chelsea played in the last few weeks and it was not as bad as the results maybe show us.

“We have to do our analysis and we feel we are prepared for the game, but we have to respect the quality of Chelsea. Let’s try everything and play well, and if it’s possible, take the points.”

Many fans are confident a result can be achieved but, knowing Jose Mourinho’s side, know that they are always hard to beat, whether in a bad run of form or not. So the Liverpool manager is not alone in refusing to underestimate Chelsea.

What is not in doubt, is that this is probably the biggest match of Klopp’s Liverpool career so far but the 48 year old will not be overwhelmed having played many big games during his time at Borussia Dortmund.

He continued: “I couldn’t be further away from frustrated at the moment – it’s the situation, it’s no problem. If I was frustrated because of this, maybe I should have stayed on holiday!

“But I didn’t want to. I wanted to come here; I knew about the matches, I saw the matches before I came here, I knew there weren’t the easiest opponents in the world. That’s no problem.

“Of course, in a perfect world we would try to have more time to train but that’s not possible.

“Two weeks here and five games, but it feels like six to eight weeks. It’s getting better and we learn quickly – as a manager and my coaching staff, and players as well. We are finding our way together.”
