Many reports this evening are claiming that Jurgen Klopp has now been installed as favourite to land the vacant Liverpool job. The former Dortmund manager has been available since the summer and is the leading target amongst fans to take over.
According to a number of respected sources, Klopp has emerged as the front-runner to take over from Rodgers and will reportedly hold talks with the club over the next few days to take the job.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Jamie Carragher, Graeme Souness and Thiery Henry reacted as the news of Rodgers’ sacking came through live on the show, with all having differing reactions to the news.
However, one thing was unanimous from all three, and that is the man who should succeed the Northern Irishman in the Anfield hot-seat: Jurgen Klopp.
And they’re not alone, as (former Liverpool Echo journalists) national football writers, Tony Barrett and Chris Bascombe have both weighed in claiming that the club have singled Jurgen out as the first choice, with Bascombe adding in the caveat that FSG will not only contact Klopp but will also ‘sound out’ Carlo Ancelotti, in case an agreement isn’t met with the German manager.
As things stand, Klopp remains the favourite with many pundits and fans alike, and the bookmakers seem fairly adamant that, should all go well, he could be announced as the new Liverpool manager prior to the away game at Spurs in two weeks. Either way, there’s some big decisions to be made by the club’s owners. Let’s hope they make the right one.
