The German manager spoke well during his first Liverpool press conference

After the crazed Thursday all Reds experienced yesterday, with excitement gripping the city of the likes we’ve not seen since 2005, today promised to be no different with Liverpool’s new manager being officially shown to the waiting masses at his first LFC press conference.

The new Liverpool manager was his usual charismatic self, ready with smiles and knowing jokes throughout and he has already won over the fans, along with much of the English press.

But perhaps most importantly, he wasn’t just saying the right things during his press conference, he clearly believes every word he says. And that is, from what we’re led to believe, one of Klopp’s greatest strengths: he believes so firmly in his own plan and ideas that getting the fans and players behind him is easy.

Speaking of his appointment during his first press conference, via LFCTV, Klopp said: “It’s the biggest honour I can imagine to be here.

“For me, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world [that] has given me this opportunity to try to help in a situation that’s not so difficult like all the people in this room think.

It’s not the perfect moment, of course, but I think it’s a good moment to come here. So I feel really proud.”

Honesty, openness and not a soundbite in sight. It was a refreshing opening for the 48 year old who spoke of his pride of managing the club but didn’t once utter the phrase ‘always been a fan’.

And his aims would have given the majority of fans a great deal of hope as he is keen to get our fans believing again and has plans to win the title over the course of the next four years.

He continued:” At this moment all the LFC family is a little bit too nervous, a little bit too pessimistic, a little bit too much in doubt.

“They all celebrate the game and there is a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium, But they don’t believe at the moment. They only see five years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago.

“History is great. But only to remember. Now we have the possibility to write a new story if we want. but we have to clear a few things and maybe we can do this and be as successful as we can be.”

With all the talk of ‘projects’ and ‘five year plan’s in recent years, it is utterly refreshing to have a man who believes he, the club and the fans are in it together and understand that, ultimately, it is success, and the joy that brings to the fans, that make a football club.

But it was in his comments regarding what he expects to achieve in the long term that would be of most interest. He said: “If I sit here in four years, I am pretty confident we will have one title.”

So there you go: no promises, no over the top aims or ridiculous claims, just a very, very exciting managerial appointment who will usher in a new, no-nonsense dawn of high-octane Jurgen Klopp football.
